January 1: Light N.W. and calm then 24 hours first part of 24 hours thick damp fog- Last part of 24 hours fair weather. Sea very smooth- General duties for the day Keeper and 2nd ast. went to Newport- to take mail. 1st asst. went fishing.

2: Light N.W. wind and calm there 24 hours with clear fine and cool weather during the 24 hours. Sea very smooth. General duties for the day Keeper and 2nd ast. went to Newport to get checks cashed.

3: Light S.E. and South wind there 24 hours with cloudy but dry weather. Sea very smooth-

February 6: Fresh and moderate breeze S. West to light S. East wind with rain & hail squalls first part of 24 hours. Last part of 24 hours fresh breeze South with rain showers. Sea moderately smooth. Keeper cleaning his kitchen & went fishing.

7: Moderate to fresh breeze S. to S. East these 24 hours with fair and warmer weather. Sea quite smooth. General duties for the day - 1st asst. went to Newport after some supplies. Keeper painting in his quarters today. 2nd asst. went to Newport with ??? to have some teeth pulled. Left station at 10am.

8: Light S. East to South wind first part of 24 hours. Last part of 24 hours moderate to fresh breeze S. to S. West with frequent rain & hail showers. Sea quite rough. Keeper painting in his quarters. 2nd asst. returned to the station at 2pm.

9: Strong to fresh and moderate breeze S.W. these 24 hour with frequent hail and rain showers. Sea quite smooth. General duties for the day - Keeper painting his quarters. 1st asst. cleaning chimney. Keeper with to Newport after supplies. Left station at 3:30pm.

10: Moderate to fresh breeze East to S. East these 24 hours with rain during most of time. Sea smooth. General duties for the day - Steamer Wilamette Valley arrived from San Francisco at 4:30am. Keeper returned to the station at 1 oclock.

11: Moderate to fresh breeze & gale South these 24 hours with rain most of the 24 hours. Sea very rough. General duties for the day - Keeper and 2nd asst. painting in their quarters.

12: Moderate & fresh breeze S. to S.W. and West these 24 hours with frequent rain and hail showers. Sea very rough. General duties for the day - Keeper went over on the beach to hunt for water agates today. 2nd asst. painting in his kitchen.

13: Fresh breeze S.W. to West N. West with frequent rain showers during 24 hours. Sea rough. General duties for the day - 1st asst. went after some fish poles and went to Newport after the mail. 2nd asst. painting in his kitchen today.

14: Light N.W. to S. East and East these 24 hours with fair weather during 24 hours. Sea very smooth. General duties for the day - 1st asst. cleaning house. 2nd asst. painting in his quarters. Keeper packing wood up from the beach. Steamer Willamette Valley sailed for San Francisco today.

15: Light wind to moderate fresh and strong breeze these 24 hours. First part of 24 hours fair weather. Last part of 24 hours rain. Sea quite smooth. Keeper cleaning out shop and barn. 1st asst. packing wood from beach. 2nd asst. painting in his quarters.

Feb 22: duties for the day. Keeper went fishing today- 2nd asst Issac L. Smith went to Newport for recreation. Left station at 10 A.M.

23: Light S.W. to West and N. West with rain first part of 24 hours. Last part of 24 hours- fair weather. Sea quite rough. General duties for the day. Keeper and 1st asst went fishing also 1st asst went to Newport. 2nd asst I. L. Smith returned to station at 1:30 A.M.

24: Light variable winds there 24 hours with light fog showers. Last part 24 hours. Sea quite rough. General duties for the day- Keeper and 1st asst went fishing. 1st asst also packing wood from beach. 2nd asst not feeling well went 15 miles from station to see Dr. Rich. Left the station at 2.00 P.M.

25: Fresh & strong breeze N.W. these 24 hours with frequent rain hail and snow squalls. Sea very rough. General duties for the day. The barometer stands 30.5 today. Keeper getting ready to put 200 gallons of oil in oil room. Keeper and 1st asst sawing wood.

26: Light N.W. to S.East wind first part of 24 hours. Last part of 24 hours light variable winds with light rain showers during 24 hours. Sea quite smooth. Keeper putting 200 gallons of mineral oil in oil room. Keeper and 1st asst went fishing. Mr. Isaac L. Smith 2nd asst returned to the station at 7 P.M. from Toledo where he had been to see Dr. Rich.

27: Light N. West wind with frequent rain showers during 24 hours. Sea smooth. General duties for the day. Steamer Willamette Valley sailed today. Keeper and 1st asst went fishing. 1st asst also working in the garden today.

28: Light S.E. to N. West wind these 24 hours. First part of 24 hours light rain showers. Last part of 24 hours fair weather. Sea smooth. 2nd asst working in garden. Keeper and 1st asst went fishing today.

March 1: Light N. West wind there 24 hours first part of 24 hours little cloudy but dry. Last part of 24 hours clear fine weather. Sea very smooth. General duties for the day. Keeper 2nd asst went to Newport . 1st asst went fishing.

2: Light N.W. to S.E. wind these 24 hours first part of 24 hours clear fine weather. Light part of 24 hours cloudy but dry. Sea smooth. General duties for the day. 1st asst working in the garden also went to Newport. Keeper went fishing.

3: Fresh breeze East these 24 hours with fair weather during 24 hours. Sea very rough. General duties for the day. Ke (-eper) sawing wood up at the garden also working in the garden. 1st asst spadeing up his part of the garden.

4: Light variable wind to fresh breeeze east these 24 hours with fair and warm weather- Sea quite smooth. Keeper and 1st asst working in the garden today - 2nd asst went to Newport.

5: Light North wind first part of 24 hours- Last part of 24 hours light variable winds with clear fine and warm weather- Sea smooth. General duties for the day. 1st asst went fishing. Keeper and 2nd asst went to Newport.

6: Light to moderate breeze S.E. to S and S. West thse 24 hours with fair weather durring 24 hours - Sea smooth. Keepers working in garden. 1st asst went fishing. Steamer Willamette Valley arrived and crossed Yaquina bar today.

7: Moderate to fresh breeze and gale South & S. West these 24 hours with rain most of 24 hours. Sea quite smooth. General duties for the day. The barometer went down to 29.40. 1st asst Edward Rice Went to Newport after the mail.

8: Light N. West to North wind first part of 24 hours with light rain showers. Last part of 24 hour moderate breeze N. West fair weather. Sea smooth. Keeper went to Newport. 1st asst went fishing and working in garden. Steamer Willamette Valley sailed for San fransisco today.

9: Light variable winds first part of 24 hours. Last part of 24 hours moderate breeze S.W. to West with rain showers. Sea quite smooth. General duties for the day. Keeper went to Newport after supplies today. Mr. Isaac L. Smith 2nd asst went to Newport to see his sister she being quite sick. Left the station at 9:30 A.M.

March 10: Light wind to moderate breeze & Gale S. East to S. & S.W. these 24 hours with rain during 24 hours. Sea rough. General duties for the day. The barometer went down to 29.30 during the 24 hours.

11: Gale to fresh breeze S. to S. West these 24 hours with frequent rain & hail squalls. Sea very rough. General duties for the day. The barometer down to 29.50 during 24 hours. Keeper sawing wood in cellar.

12: Moderate breeze and light West wind first part of 24 hours. Last part of 24 hours fresh breeze W. to S.W. with frequent rain and hail squalls during 24 hours. Sea quite rough. General duties for the day. Barometer 30.30 at 4 P.M.

13: Light wind to moderate and fresh breeze S.E. to East these 24 hours. First part of 24 hours little damp. Last part of 24 hours fair weather. General duties for the day. Keeper spading up his garden. Also went to Newport to take Mrs. Plummer, she['s] going to Portland. 1st asst also went to Newport and fishing. 2nd asst returned to station from Newport at 6 P.M. his sister being some better.

14: Strong breeze East these 24 hours with fair weather during 24 hours. Sea moderately smooth. Keeper spadeing up his garden and went fishing. 1st asst also went fishing. 2nd asst went to Newport to see how his sister is getting along. Left the Station at 10 A.M.

15: Moderate breeze East to light variable wind these 24 hours with frequent light rain showers during 24 hours. Sea quite smooth. General duties for the day. Had one visitor today. 1st asst spading & planting garden. Fresh breeze S.W. last part of 24 hours. 2nd asst Isaac L. Smith returned to the station at 5 P.M.

16: Light S. East wind first part of 24 hours. Last part of 24 hours light variable winds with frequent rain showers during 24 hours. Sea smooth. Keeper & 2nd asst went to Newport. Steamer Willamett Valley arrived today. 1st asst spadeing in garden. Had three visitors. Keeper & 1st asst went fishing. [Inspector's signature inserted within this day's log entry: Commander O.W. Farenholt, March 16th '93 including other??? unintelligible comments] 16 [continued below signature] U.S. Light House Inspector visited and inspected the station at 6.30 P.M. and left for Newport at 7 P.M.

31: Strong fresh breeze and gale these 24 hours with rain moste of the 24 hours. Sea quite rough. General duties for the day. Keeper makeing out the quarterly monthly & absence(?) reports.

April 1: Fresh to strong breeze and gale S. to S.W. these 24 hours with hard rain moste of the 24 hours. Sea quite rough. General duties for the day. The barometer is down to 29.70.

2: Gale to fresh breeze S. to S. West and West these 24 hours with hard rain moste of the 24 hours. Sea quite rough. General duties for the day. The barometer down to 29.42. Keeper went over to Newport to mail the reports.

3: Heavy gale South and S. West these 24 hours with hard rain during 24 hours. Sea rough. General duties for the day. A Steam Schooner laying off light about 2 to 6 miles this afternoon.

4: Moderate breeze S.W. to light S.E. wind first part of 24 hours. Last part of 24 hours moderate to fresh breeze S.E. to South with frequent rain shower during 24 hours. Sea quite rough. General duties for the day. Keeper & 2nd asst. went to Newport. Had one visitor today.

5: Light East wind first part of 24 hours. Last part of 24 hours light variable winds and calm with frequent light rain showers during 24 hours. Sea quite smooth. Keepers cleaning lamp and illuminating apparatus measures and oil brackets. 1st asst went fishing and to Newport. Had two visitors. Keeper and 2nd asst. repairing hen coop. The steam Schooner that was laying off the light Monday afternoon passed the light at 9AM coming from the north west went down to Yaquina bay and crossed in at 1:30PM. She seems to be disabled in some way.

6: Fresh breeze N.W. with rain & hail squally during 24 hours. Sea smooth. General duties for the day. Keeper went over to Newport to see and get a report about the steam Schooner Alare Blanchard that crossed into Yaquina Bay yesterday at 1:30PM. The Alare Blanchard became disabled in the gales that have been blowing off shore the 8 or 10 days. Sails blowed away waterloged and unmanageable. Andrew Carlson & Frank Ayede crossed the the Yaquina bay bar in a small boat went abord and piloted her into Yaquina bay. In crossing bar the chain on rudder brook and got afoul of
