January 1: Light East to S. East wind these 24 hours with fair and cool weather during 24 hours - Sea very smooth - General duties for the day - 2nd Asst James B. Hermann putting dressing on his part of garden - the barometer down to 29.90 at 3 P.M.
2: Fresh and strong breeze East first part of 24 hours. Last part of 24 hours Gale S.E. To S. West with hard rain during 24 hours - Sea rough - General duties for the day - The barometer went down to 29.20 today.
3: Gale to fresh breeze South to S. East first part of 24 hours - Last part of 24 hours hard Gale S.E. to South with rain during 24 hours - Sea rough - Keepers cleaning out the cistern today. The barometer down to 29. today - Mr. Herman 2nd asst is very stupid cant seem to learn or remember anything that is told him. 2nd asst James B. Hermann went to Newport after mail to to mail letters. Also after supplies left station at 2300?

January 5: General duties for the day - The barometer down to 29.40 - Keeper went to Newport to mail letters & get supplies.
6: Moderate breeze West with frequent rain and hail squalls first part of 24 hours - Last part of 24 hours light variable winds fair weather - Sea quite smooth - General duties for day - The barometer down to 29.84 today.
7: Light wind S. West wind to moderate breeze East first part of 24 hours - Last part of 24 hours light wind to moderate breeze S. East - dry and fair weather during 24 hours - Sea smooth - Keepers putting 200 gallons of mineral oil in office - The barometer 29.98 today - There is a steamer S. West of this light at 9 A.M. about 12 miles off flying signal of distress looks like the steamer Bandorville under sail - At 2 P.M. she is about 3 miles West of the Whistling buoy off the entrance of Yaquina bar. Steamer Volanta of Yaquina went out over the bar to assist the steamer Bandorville over the bar to Newport - crossed the bar 4:30 P.M.
8: Fresh breeze East to S. East to gale South these 24 hours with rain during 24 hours - Sea rough - General duties for the day - The barometer down to 29.42 today - Keeper cleaning out the barn today.
x 9: Moderate breeze to light wind South these 24 hours with frequent rain & fog showers - Sea quite smooth - General duties for the day. 1st assistant went fishing. The barometer 30.00 today. Keeper repairing lock on watch-room door. Mr. James B. Hermann 2nd asst. went to Newport after mail and get supplies. Left the station at 10 A.M.
10: Fresh breeze South with frequent rain showers during 24 hours - Sea moderately smooth - General duties for the day - The barometer down to 29.76 today - Mr. Hermann 2nd asst. returned to the station at 2:45 P.M. The steamer that went in over the Yaquina bar the 7th at 4:30 P.M. flying signal of distress was the Bandorvill, Capt. Wenant. She left the Coquille the 1st of January for San Francisco - The 2nd lost a part of her rudder in a gale and had to make a false rudder out of the boom. She drifted north until off of Yaquina and entered safely the 7th.

20: Moderate to fresh breeze East these 24 hours - First part of 24 hours fair and cool weather - last part of 24 hours rain and snow - Sea smooth - General duties for the day - The barometer down to 29.35 during 24 hours - Steamer Bandorville Capt Winant sailed for San Francisco at 7 A.M. - 1st asst went fishing - 2nd asst went to Newport to take mail and get supplies.
21: Light wind to moderate breeze East with snow and rain showers during 24 hours - Sea quite rough. Keeper and 1st asst cleaning dressing out of the barn - The barometer down to 29.50 today.
22: Light East to S. East wind these 24 hours - First part of 24 hours light rain showers - Last part of 24 hours fair weather and warmer - Sea moderately smooth - Steamer Homer arrived from San Francisco and crossed Yaquina bar to Yaquina City - 1st asst putting dressing on his garden - Keeper and 1st asst went fishing - 2nd asst went to Newport to take & get mail.

First part of 24 hours light rain showers - Last part of 24 hours fair weather - Sea smooth - Keeper and 1st and 2nd assts scrubbing and cleaning out their respective Quarters - The barometer is 30.20 today - 2nd asst went to Newport to take & get the mail - Steamer Alcatraz arrived from Frisco - Steamer Homer sailed for Sanfrancisco from Yaquina.
25: Light East wind these 24 hours with clear fine and cool weather. Sea very smooth - 2nd asst scrubbing and cleaning his quarters - Steamer Alcatraz came out of Yaquina and framed the cape going North - Keeper cleaning out chicken house - 1st asst went fishing and to Newport - Had two visitors today - Mr. Whitten haueled a load of household goods for 2nd asst from Newport today.
26: Light variable winds and calm first part of 24 hours- Last part of 24 hours light wind to moderate breeze North with fair and cool weather - Sea smooth - General duties for the day - Keeper went to Newport after supplies - 2nd asst scrubbing and cleaning his quarters - A steamer crossed in over the Yaquina bar coming from the South looked like L.H. Tender Manzanita.

30: Light North wind dry and cool first part of 24 hours - Last part of 24 hours light variable winds little damp - sea rough - 1st and 2nd assts painting floors and staircases lead collor in 2nd assts quarters - Keeper & 1st asst taking covers off of coal oil cases preparing to empty them.
31: Light North wind with light rain showers first part of 24 hours - Last part of 24 hours light variable winds fair and warmer weather - Sea quite smooth - Steamer Homer arrived and crossed in over Yaquina Bar from Sanfrancisco at 11 A.M. - Keeper and 1st asst putting 200 Gals of Mineral Oil in office - 2nd asst went to Newport after mail & supplies.

February 1: Light S. East to N. West wind these 24 hours with light fog showers most of 24 hours - Sea is smooth - General duties for the day - 2nd asst went to Newport after the mail to see if he could get a letter from his wife - 2nd asst also painted his kitchen floor - Keeper went to Newport on important business and after supplies - Left the station at 9:45 A.M.
2: Light variable winds with fair dry and cool weather these 24 hours - Sea smooth - 1st asst went fishing today. Keeper returned to the station at 11:45 - 2nd asst went to Newport to see if he could hear from his family - Left the station at 11:45 P.M. [illegible text on left margin]
3: Light North to N.W. wind clear fine and cool weather these 24 hours - Sea very smooth - General duties for the day - U.S. Light-House Tender Manzanita crossed in over Yaquina bar at 7:15 A.M. today having come from the South - The barometer 30.20 today - 2nd asst James B. Herman returned to the station at 10:45 A.M.
4: Light North wind fair and cool weather these 24 hours - Sea very smooth - General duties for the day - 2nd asst. painted a small spot in hall in his quarters - 1st asst. went fishing - Lieut Blish and Insqpector inspection station at 2:30 P.M. and left for Newport at 3:15 P.M.

Hermann went to Newport after mail. U.S. Light-House Tender Manzanita crossed??? out of Yaquina bar at 5:30 P.M. and steamed north.

24: Light variable winds these 24 hours - First part of 24 hours little damp - Last part of 24 hours fair weather - Sea moderately smooth - General duties for the day - Received the following order from Commander O.W. Farenholt Inspector 13th Light House District - With the exception of Light-House Keepers no person will be permitted inside the Light House or Watchroom between the hours of sunset and sunrise - The Keeper on watch will give his undivided attention to his duties - Night reliefs of Watches will be made in the watchroom and not outside the tower or at the dwellings of the Keepers - At stations where there are other government or outside employees Keepers while on duty are forbidden to stand watches, reliefs or do any work for remuneration or otherwise for the aforementioned persons - This does not apply to Light House employees sent to the station to effect repairs or alterations. In such cases every Keeper will assist to the best of his ability - During the salmon-fishing season, Light-House Keepers outside their own wants are forbidden to employ themselves in seine trap or net fishing either for favor, gain or traffic??? These orders are signed by all the Keepers, posted in the Watch room and the Keeper has informed the Inspector that they are thoroughly understood and will be obeyed. 2nd asst returned to the station at 4 P.M. with his Wife and Family.
