(All communications should be addressed to "THE LIGHT-HOUSE BOARD.") Treasure Department, Office of the Light-House Board Washington, D.C., Sept. 2, 1899.
The Honorable, The Secretary of the Treasury. Sir: Referring to a letter from the Engineer of the 13th Light-House District of 26 Aug., '99, the board has the honor to state that it is necessary to make repairs and install a heater at the Yaquina Head, Oreg., Light-Station.
It is estimated that this work can be done at a total cost of $850 to be paid from funds allotted from the appropriation Repairs and Incidental Expenses of Light-Houses, 1900.
Authority is therefore asked to make repairs and install a heater at the before named Light-Station at a total estimated cost of $850, the work to be done under the direction of the Board by persons in its employ and by the purchase of the necessary materials, excepting the heater, of the lowest bidder after due advertisement in accordance with existing regulations, that

In the case of the heater it is recommended that a Little Giant Heater No. 16, which is suitable for the service required, be purchased of the local agent at a cost not to exceed $200, it being of special manufacture and not obtainable by competitive bids.
