187 1902 MONTH DAY RECORD OF IMPORTANT EVENTS AT THE STATION, BAD WEATHER, &c.

January 1: Moderate to fresh breeze S.E. to east these 24 hours. First part of 24 hours fair weather. Last part of 24 hours light rain showers. Sea very smooth. Barometer 30.05 to 29.72. Keeper showing two visitors in Tower. 1st asst went fishing. 2nd asst returned to sta at 11:15 A.M.

January 2: Gale to fresh breeze S. east to south these 24 hours - First part of 24 hours rain. Last part of 24 hours fair weather. Sea quite smooth. Barometer 29.62 to 29.92. General duties for the day. 1st asst went fishing. Keeper went to Newport to have his teeth repaired. Left the sta at 9:30 A.M.

January 3: Moderate to fresh breeze S. east to south these 24 hours. First part of 24 hours rain. Last part of 24 hours showery & fair weather. Sea quite rough. General duties for the day. Barometer 29.92 to 30.05. Keeper returned to the station at 11:30 A.M.

January 4: Fresh breeze to light south wind these 24 hours. First part of 24 hours rain. Last part of 24 hours clear fine weather. Sea rough. General duties for the day. 2nd asst doing house work. 1st asst went to Newport after supplies and mail.

January 5: Fresh breeze to gale south these 24 hours. First part of 24 hours fair. Last part of 24 hours hard rain. Sea very rough. General duties for the day. Barometer 29.70 to 29.80. Keeper writeing in Office.

January 6: Fresh breeze south these 24 hours. First part of 24 hours hard rain. Last part of 24 hours thick damp weather. Sea rough. Barometer 29.78 to 29.82. General duties for the day. 2nd asst went to Newport to post & get mail and supplies. Keeper writeing in office.

January 7: Gale to fresh breeze south with hard rain first part of 24 hours. Last part of 24 hours light S to S. west wind rain showers and fair weather. Sea rough. Barometer 29.62 to 29.80. Keeper writeing in office and doing house work and sawing wood in his celler.

January 8: Fresh breeze S to light S.W. wind these 24 hours. First part of 24 hours rain. Last part of 24 hours fair weather. Sea very rough. General duties for the day. Barometer 29.80 to 30.00. 1st asst went to Newport after mail & supplies.

January 9: Moderate breeze to light north and east wind these 24 hours with clear fine and cool weather. Sea rough. Barometer 29.80 to 30.22. 1st asst went fishing. 2nd asst cutting wood one mile from station for Keeper and ssts. Keeper working in shop.

January 10: Fresh breeze to light east wind these 24 hours with clear fine & cool weather. Sea very smooth. Barometer 30.23 to 30.03. General duties for the day. 2nd asst cutting wood. 1st asst went fishing. Keeper went one mile from sta where 2nd asst is cutting wood.

January 11: Moderate breeze to light east wind these 24 hours with clear fine and cool weather. Sea rough. Barometer 30.00 to 30.10. 1st & 2nd assts putting 200 gallons of mineral oil in oil butts. 2nd asst cutting wood. Keeper went to Newport after mail & supplies.

January 12: Light east to north wind these 24 hours. First part of 24 hours clear fine and cool. Last part of 24 hours thick and light fog showers. Sea rough. General duties for the day. Barometer 30.16. 2nd asst went to Newport after mail & supplies.

January 13: Light variable winds these 24 hours. First part of 24 hours thick damp fog. Last part of 24 hours heigh dry fog. Sea quite smooth. Barometer 30.20. Keeper and 2nd asst washing. General duties for the day.

January 14: Light variable winds these 24 hours. First part of 24 hours damp. Last part of 24 hours clear fine weather. Sea smooth. General duties for the day. Keeper went to Newport to have his teeth filled. 1st asst went fishing.

January 15: Light east to S. east these 24 hours. First part of 24 hours fair weather. Last part of 24 hours light rain and thick. Sea smooth. Barometer 30.20 to 29.98. 1st asst went fishing. 2nd cutting wood one mile from station.

January 16: Light S. east wind to moderate breeze south with rain first part of 24 hours. Last part of 24 hours fresh breeze N. west with frequent rain showers. Sea little rough. General duties for the day. Barometer 29.80 to 30.04. 1st asst went to Newport after mail and supplies.

January 18: Light east wind these 24 hours with cold. Sea moderately smooth. General duties for the day. Barometer 29.90 to 29.64. Keeper working in shop. 2nd asst went to Newport after mail and supplies. Left the sta at 11:00 AM.

January 19: Light east to S. east wind these 24 hours with fair weather. Sea very rough. General duties for the day. 1st asst went fishing. 2nd asst returned to the sta at 1 A.M. Barometer 29.62 to 30.02. Keeper and 2nd asst went to Big Creek on important business.

January 20: Fresh breeze east these 24 hours with fair weather. Sea smooth. Barometer 29.98. General duties for the day. Keeper washing and doing house work. 1st asst went fishing. 2nd asst doing house work and cutting wood for Keeper and assts today.

January 21: Light south wind to moderate breeze east these 24 hours. First part of 24 hours light rain. Last part of 24 hours clear fine and cool weather. Sea rough. Barometer 29.90 to 30.04. 1st asst went to Newport after mail & supplies. 2nd asst cutting wood for Keeper & assts.

January 30: Fresh breeze E. to S, & N.W. wind these 24 hours. First part of 24 hours snow and rain. Last part of 24 hours fair weather. Sea quite smooth. General duties for the day. 1st asst went fishing. Barometer 29.80 to 29.96. 2nd asst went to Newport for secreation. Left sta at 2 P.M.

January 31: Light west wind these 24 hours with frequent light rain showers. Sea very smooth. General duties for the day. Barometer 30.08. 1st asst went fishing. Keeper went to Newport mail reports. 2nd asst returned to the sta at 11 A.M.

20: Fresh breeze to light south wind these 24 hours. First part of 24 hours hard rain. Last part of 24 hours clear and fine weather. Sea very rough. Barometer 29.55 to 29.96. General duties for the day. Keeper working shop. 2nd asst went to Newport after mail + supplies.

March 1: Light S.E. to East and South wind these 24 hours. First part of 24 hours rain. Last part of 24 hours fair. Sea considerably smooth. Barometer 29.90 to 29.50. Keeper working in garden- 2nd Asst. washing and putting alabastine on walls in his quartters.

March 2: Fresh breeze to light North wind these 24 hours-with frequent light rain showers-sea smooth. General duties for the dat- 1st Asst. went fishing- Barometer 29.52 to 29.82. 2nd Asst. went to Newport after mail and supplies.

March 3: Light S. wind to moderate breeze S. East with frequent rain and hail showers first part of 24 hours. Last part of 24 hours-fresh breeze and gale S. light rain-sea quite rough. Barometer 29.72 to 29.98. Keeper washing today. 1st Asst. digging a trench from water closet to bluff preparing to clean it out. 1st Asst. also went fishing. 2nd Asst. cutting wood today.

March 4: Gale to fresh breeze South to light S. East wind these 24 hours- with hard rain. Sea moderately smooth. Barometer 29.90. General duties for day.

March 5: Light S. East wind these 24 hours. First part of 24 hours rain. Last part of 24 hours light rain showers- sea rough. Barometer 29.90 to 29.16. 1st Asst. went to Newport after mail and supplies. 2nd Asst. cutting wood for Keeper and Assts.

March 6: Moderate breeze to light South wind with light rain first part of 24 hours. Last par tof 24 hours moderate breeze S. to fresh breeze S.W. rain. Sea rough. Barometer 29.10 to 29.56. Keeper went to Newport after mail and supplies. 2nd Asst. doing house work today and cutting wood.

March 7: Gale to moderate breeze and light South wind these 24 hours with hard rain- sea rough. Barometer 29.44. General duties for the day.

March 8: Light S. wind to moderate breeze S. West these 24 hours. First part of 24 hours rain. Last part of 24 hours light rain showers and fair- sea quite rough. Keeper and Assts. putting 200 gallons of Oil in Oil butts. Barometer 29.45 to 29.72. 2nd Asst. went to Newport for recreation & get supplies. Left the sta. (station) at 9:30 A.M.

March 9: Light variable winds to moderate breeze S. West these 24 hours with frequent rain showers and fair. Sea moderately smooth. General duties for the day- 2nd Asst. returned to the station at 11:30 A.M. also showing four visitors in Tower. Barometer 29.72 to 30.06. 1st Asst. went fishing.

March 10: Moderate breeze S. to light West wind these 24 hours with rain during 24 hours. Sea moderately smooth. General duties for the day- 1st Asst. went fishing, 2nd Asst. cutting wood. Barometer 30.03 to 30.18. Keeper washing today.

March 11: Light West to N. West wind these 24 hours- first park of 24 hours frequent light rain showers- last part of 24 hours fair. Sea quite rough. Barometer 30.33. 1st Asst. went to Newport after mail & supplies & went fishing. 2nd Asst. cutting wood. Keeper taking old wire off the wire fence around the bluff.

March 12: Light S.W. wind light rain showers first part of 24 hours. Last part of 24 hours moderate to fresh breeze. S.W. to W. rain & hail squall. Sea quite rough. Barometer 30.30 to 29.80. 1st Asst. went fishing. 2nd Asst. cutting wood. Keeper went to Newport after mail and supplies.

March 13: Fresh breeze West N. West these 24 hours with frequent rain and hail squalls. Sea quite rough. General duties for the day- Barometer 29.70. 2nd Asst. cutting wood. Keeper went to Newport to have his teeth filled and procure supplies. Left the station at 9:30 A.M.

March 14: Fresh breeze West these 24 hours with frequent rain and hail squalls. Sea rought. Baromerter 29.78 to 29.88. Keeper returns to station at 3 P.M.

March 15: Fresh to moderate breeze & light W.N. West wind with rain & hail first part of 24 hours. Last part of 24 hourse cloudy and fair. Sea quite rough. Barometer 29.80 to 30.22. 1st Asst. went fishing. 2nd Asst. cutting wood for Keeper and Assts. today.

March 16: Light S. East wind these 24 hours fair weather. Sea smooth. General duties for the day. 1st Asst. wind fishing. Barometer 30.22 to 30.14 today.

March 17: Fresh breeze South to S. West these 24 hours with rain frist par tof 24 hours. Last part of 24 hours frequent rain and hail squalls. Sea rough. Barometer 30.22 to 29.84. 1st Asst. shading garden & went fishing. Keeper washing and doing hause work. 2nd Asst. cutting wood for Keeper & Assts. He also went to Newport for recreation. Left the station at 3 P.M.

March 18: Light S. East to East wind with rain first part of 24 hours. Last part of 24 hours moderate to fresh breeze N.W. to North wind & cool. Sea moderately smooth. Keeper working on Quarterly reports to Inspector. 1st Asst. went fishing and shading garding. 2nd Asst. returned to the station at 11:30 A.M.
