Journal of Light-house Station at Yaquina Head Oregon

March 1: Light S.E. to East and South wind these 24 hours. First part of 24 hours rain. Last part of 24 hours fair. Sea considerably smooth. Barometer 29.90 to 29.50. Keeper working in garden- 2nd Asst. washing and putting alabastine on walls in his quartters.

March 2: Fresh breeze to light North wind these 24 hours-with frequent light rain showers-sea smooth. General duties for the dat- 1st Asst. went fishing- Barometer 29.52 to 29.82. 2nd Asst. went to Newport after mail and supplies.

March 3: Light S. wind to moderate breeze S. East with frequent rain and hail showers first part of 24 hours. Last part of 24 hours-fresh breeze and gale S. light rain-sea quite rough. Barometer 29.72 to 29.98. Keeper washing today. 1st Asst. digging a trench from water closet to bluff preparing to clean it out. 1st Asst. also went fishing. 2nd Asst. cutting wood today.

March 4: Gale to fresh breeze South to light S. East wind these 24 hours- with hard rain. Sea moderately smooth. Barometer 29.90. General duties for day.

March 5: Light S. East wind these 24 hours. First part of 24 hours rain. Last part of 24 hours light rain showers- sea rough. Barometer 29.90 to 29.16. 1st Asst. went to Newport after mail and supplies. 2nd Asst. cutting wood for Keeper and Assts.

March 6: Moderate breeze to light South wind with light rain first part of 24 hours. Last par tof 24 hours moderate breeze S. to fresh breeze S.W. rain. Sea rough. Barometer 29.10 to 29.56. Keeper went to Newport after mail and supplies. 2nd Asst. doing house work today and cutting wood.

March 7: Gale to moderate breeze and light South wind these 24 hours with hard rain- sea rough. Barometer 29.44. General duties for the day.

March 8: Light S. wind to moderate breeze S. West these 24 hours. First part of 24 hours rain. Last part of 24 hours light rain showers and fair- sea quite rough. Keeper and Assts. putting 200 gallons of Oil in Oil butts. Barometer 29.45 to 29.72. 2nd Asst. went to Newport for recreation & get supplies. Left the sta. (station) at 9:30 A.M.

March 9: Light variable winds to moderate breeze S. West these 24 hours with frequent rain showers and fair. Sea moderately smooth. General duties for the day- 2nd Asst. returned to the station at 11:30 A.M. also showing four visitors in Tower. Barometer 29.72 to 30.06. 1st Asst. went fishing.

March 10: Moderate breeze S. to light West wind these 24 hours with rain during 24 hours. Sea moderately smooth. General duties for the day- 1st Asst. went fishing, 2nd Asst. cutting wood. Barometer 30.03 to 30.18. Keeper washing today.

March 11: Light West to N. West wind these 24 hours- first park of 24 hours frequent light rain showers- last part of 24 hours fair. Sea quite rough. Barometer 30.33. 1st Asst. went to Newport after mail & supplies & went fishing. 2nd Asst. cutting wood. Keeper taking old wire off the wire fence around the bluff.

March 12: Light S.W. wind light rain showers first part of 24 hours. Last part of 24 hours moderate to fresh breeze. S.W. to W. rain & hail squall. Sea quite rough. Barometer 30.30 to 29.80. 1st Asst. went fishing. 2nd Asst. cutting wood. Keeper went to Newport after mail and supplies.

March 13: Fresh breeze West N. West these 24 hours with frequent rain and hail squalls. Sea quite rough. General duties for the day- Barometer 29.70. 2nd Asst. cutting wood. Keeper went to Newport to have his teeth filled and procure supplies. Left the station at 9:30 A.M.

March 14: Fresh breeze West these 24 hours with frequent rain and hail squalls. Sea rought. Baromerter 29.78 to 29.88. Keeper returns to station at 3 P.M.

March 15: Fresh to moderate breeze & light W.N. West wind with rain & hail first part of 24 hours. Last part of 24 hourse cloudy and fair. Sea quite rough. Barometer 29.80 to 30.22. 1st Asst. went fishing. 2nd Asst. cutting wood for Keeper and Assts. today.

March 16: Light S. East wind these 24 hours fair weather. Sea smooth. General duties for the day. 1st Asst. wind fishing. Barometer 30.22 to 30.14 today.

March 17: Fresh breeze South to S. West these 24 hours with rain frist par tof 24 hours. Last part of 24 hours frequent rain and hail squalls. Sea rough. Barometer 30.22 to 29.84. 1st Asst. shading garden & went fishing. Keeper washing and doing hause work. 2nd Asst. cutting wood for Keeper & Assts. He also went to Newport for recreation. Left the station at 3 P.M.

March 18: Light S. East to East wind with rain first part of 24 hours. Last part of 24 hours moderate to fresh breeze N.W. to North wind & cool. Sea moderately smooth. Keeper working on Quarterly reports to Inspector. 1st Asst. went fishing and shading garding. 2nd Asst. returned to the station at 11:30 A.M.
