544 – Cape Foulweather The keepers commenced work in the new drain for the vaults by digging the trench and placing in it a temporary open wood drain. 546 – Point Adams An examination was made of the LH Reservation and vicinity with a view to the prevention of sand drift, and plans prepared to effect this by means of vegetation and plantations. A report and estimate was sent to the Board Aug 5th 1884. 567 – Shoalwater Bay An examination similar to that at Point Adams, was made with reference to the prevention of sand drift. The keepers cleared the sand off the plank road from the barn to the lighthouse

and found that about half the planks and sills were decayed; the road was repaired by the keepers with material on hand so that it will last another year. The Life Saving Service were granted permission by the Board to occupy and remove their building to a lot 300ft square on the opposite side of the slough from the former location.

Office of Light-House Engineer Thirteenth District Portland, Oregon Oct. 16th 1884

To the Chairman Of the Light House Board Washington, DC

Sir: I have the honor to submit herewith report of engineer operations in the district during the month of September, 1884. 542 – Cape Orford (Blanco) The new barn was finished according to the plans and in addition large grain boxes, with hinged covers, were placed in each compartment. In the tower a box with partitions was made for holding the storm glass panes. New platforms at the kitchen entrance and new cistern covers were built.

The plastering in the dwelling, the window blinds, and plank walk from dwelling to tower were repaired and some new branch walks were made. Work by hired labor assisted by keepers.

543 – Cape Arago The brush on the land cleared last spring was burned and the clearing away of the logs and residue left was commenced and nearly completed.

544 – Cape Foulweather The iron work for the tramway car and winch were obtained and shipped to the station. The lumber for the tramway was obtained at Yaquina Bay and work commenced. Some minor repairs were made by the keepers to the dwelling occupied by the 2nd assistant keeper.

546 – Point Adams Work of prevention of sand drift was continued. To September 30th, about 13 acres had been planted with sand grass, most of it being planted in strips, attending with the strips of brush.

547 – Shoalwater Bay The fence around upper pasture was rebuilt by the keepers.
