Endorsement on annexed Letter
from Chas F. Brown.

Office Light House engineer 13th Dist.
Portland, Oregon.
September 30. 1871

Respectfully referred to Rear Admiral W. B.
Shubrick Chairman of Light House Board.
I returned yesterday from Cape Foulweather. Where I went to locate the
buildings and make preparations for commencing work. While at Newport Yaquina
Bay there were three vessels in the harbor containing all the material of the Light Keepers dwelling (excepting the Fir Lumber which had been ordered at a Sawmill on the bay)
Two of the vessels sailed from San Francisco August 28. and measures had been adopted that would have resulted in putting the work through in time. had it not been for a Severe Storm and trouble with the mails.
A letter written by me to Mr Ben
