Many thanks for your
letter of 24 [?] which I ought
to have answered before, but
I know you will forgive me.
I am indeed sorry to learn
that Victoria has still heard no
thing of her husband. It is all
too sad & from the appeals for news
of missing relatives in the Papers
there must be 1000's of our people
alone who are praying & longing
for even the slightest hope of tracing
them. I wonder whether we shall ever
know the total number of Britishers
unaccounted for in Malaya alone?
