Manuscript volume. The first thirty-nine pages include diary entries from Page's years as an undergraduate student at Harvard College. Dated July 1757 through March 1761, entries includes short notes about daily activities. Topics covered include expenses, academics, clothing, and travel to and from Cambridge. Twenty-two pages covering 1764 through 1781 contain brief listings of items, generally foodstuffs, received from male and female Danville parishioners identified by name in Danville. The final twenty-six pages contain notes listing area deaths, as well as his own thoughts on topics such as "of light" and "jealousy." The concluding pages include rules "Concerning Grammar."

Biographical Notes

John Page was born on October 19, 1738. He received his AB in 1761 and his AM in 1764 from Harvard College. He was ordained as a Congregational minister in Danville, New Hampshire in 1763. He died of smallpox on January 29, 1783.

He could not get a Boat to on Bord the Vessel to get his Things. so we came to Charlstown and He hird a Man and a Boat, went to the Vesel and He got his Things. on board the Vesel I saw several more of my Friends He brought his Things to Brown at Charlston He hird a Horse and went Home. & I came to Cambridge. I bought cloth for A great Coat and a Pair of Breaches which Cost me 12 pound also a pair of knee-Buckels 0. 4. 6. & half a cake of Soap 0.2.6. Staying at Browns and [meating] my Friends which Came home Canada £1 S6.D6.

18 receited morning a forensick [sic] dispute I was in tho[sic] Day began the sale of the remainder of the Book of the late Venerable Mr Flint[?]. in the after-noon I went bought several books a very good penenth[sic] 19 receited morning went to the Auction bought one Book once the Sale finished in the after-noon in the after-noon went and got my Books received this Day Mr Parons of Newbury preached at Mr Prentice's by the Gallows Mr Hancock will not let us go_____________________ 20 about 1/4 after two in the morning the wind blew so hard I could not sleep (being alone for Perley kept the Buttery) I saw it took some thing light did not know but that it was Day got up and went upon the top of College saw a very large sine [sic] at Boston. I made one up a sine and went to reading and about 1/4 before four the Schola rs began to get up and awake one another and we watched it and found that it increased. went to Breakfast before Prayers. went to Prayers and receited and went to Boston got there by a few minutes after I saw the Desolation People in general thiught that there were between 2 and 3 hundred housed but it was ges[sic] worke [illegible] ly got up before Commons at noon a great num ber of schollors [sic] went to Boston so we had enough and enough this Day we were to leave of [sic] receiting at x1 But Mr Hanock was out of town so yester Day was the last time that we shall receite Virgil 21 studied ward went in to Mr Winthrop Livermore being out of town lodged with Emery 22 receited morning after Commons Bliss and Emery had some Difference. Bliss srtruck Emery and swore. Emery hoisted Him he was banished [illegible] for taking God's name in vain and for fiting [sic] which he often did[?].
