David S. Jordan.

Highly prized friend.

How very kind of you to write me as often as you do, I know so very well what a hard working man you are, consequently I appreciate deeply the time you devote to me - You know how welcome letters from home and loved ones are when so far away -

Your last letter tells me of the undying sorrow that has come to Dr Stillman and his family - it is too terrible to even think of how awful to endure - Mrs Stillman and the daughter were the last to whome [sic]I said Good bye too

God is only love and goodness, it was man's short sightedness that caused the calamity, not God's fault. The dear one so suddenly ushered from life here to the life beyond she too needs our prayers, our sympathy, she went young, trustful - loves for only things of earth. Father mother sisters, friends, she is neither more or less than when she left here for the new country, and she feels its strangeness, and her heart aches for the grief she knows her loved ones are enduring on her account they must be brave on this dear childs account her sorrows can be assuaged a little and theirs be lightened knowing and feeling both can help each other, God is a tender loving Father, and would not deny them weeping, but He asks them to trust Him, He will be good to their stricken, sorrowful daughter, and to them also if they but trust Him. Who have we on earth to trust
