Mt. Morris, Ill., Monday, Jan. 10, 1898

Rec'd and Sent a Telephone Sent a Deed. Rec'd a telephone from John at Rockford this evening informing me that he had traded his Coloardo land for Rockford property, and that I should send the government patent for the Colorado land. Rain--very light. Fog; Calm; 33 degrees at 2 p.m.

Tuesday, Jan. 11th Wrote a Letter. Wrote to Ernest and John at Rockford and sent deed to John by express on the 10:28 a.m. train. Rain. Light rain; fog; calm; temp. at 2 p.m. 38 degrees. Explosion. Last night a terrific explosion of dynamite took place near Polo. Circumstances not known.

Wednesday, Jan. 12th Rain, Snow: Light rain; heavy fog; calm; snow, 1 in at 3 p.m., temp at 3 p.m., 34 degrees. Recd f'm Rockford. John returned home from Rockford, at 1 p.m., in a shower.

Mt. Morris, Thursday, Jan. 13, 1898.

Snow. Light snow at 2 to 3 p.m., Not enough for sledding. Temp., 2 p.m. 32 degrees Visitor. Mina Middour took supper with us.

Friday, Jan. 14th Surprise Party. Mrs. Sallie Baker's 46th Birthday. This evening a surprise was given Mrs. Sallie Baker, it being the 46th anniversary of her birthday. A handsome looking chair was presented her by the party assembled and an address made by Rev. L.L. Lipe.

Saturday, Jan. 15th Rec'd Letter. Rec'd a letter from Ernest.

Mt. Morris, Jan. 17, (Monday) 1898.

Tuesday, Jan. 18th Married. Mr. E.E. Slaughter and Miss Carrie D. Lester were married at noon to-day Rev. L.L. Lipe officiating. [This item should be under following date]

Wednesday, Jan. 19th.

Thursday, Jan. 20th Snow. Snow last night and this morning to the depth of 4 inches fell on very soft ground, which is cut up by vichicles and sleds. Temp. at 7 a.m. 32 degrees. High Wind. A high wind prevailed all night.

Friday, Jan. 21st Allen Sale. R.Q. Allen made sale to-day, and a big crowd present. Bad Roads. Roads sloppy and travel disagreeable. Temp. at 2 p.m., 38 degrees. [[?]]

Mt. Morris, Saturday, Jan. 22, 1898.

Snow. Snow commenced falling rapidly at 8:3- a.m., and continued throughout the day. Wind. At first it was nearly calm, but in the afternoon the wind began to rise, and continued to increase quite a gale. Rain. About 7 p.m. it rained briskly for 10 or 15 minutes, then sleeted. Depth of snow 10 inches.

Sunday, Jan. 23d. Rec'd Letter Rec'd a letter from sister Elizabeth this morning, mailed at Sharpsburg, Md. 10 a.m., Jan. 21st. Sleighing Snow Drifted Sleighs are running, but the snow is drifted considerable, compelling travelers to leave east and west roads, which are banked with snow. Pracher Resigned Rev. A. Sillason resigned his charge

Monday, 24th Thaw. Mostly a clear day. Snow thaws.
