The undersigned respectfully represent
to the Court of Hustings for the City of Richmond that
they are well acquainted with John Hopes a free man
of Color formerly the slave of Charles Copeland
that they have know him for many years, that he
is distinquished for his good character, sobriety
peaceable orderly and industrious conduct and
request the Court to grant him permission to
remain in the state and reside in the City of
Richmond
