5th (EARL OF CHESTER'S BATTALION
THE 22ND (CHESHIRE) REGIMENT letterhead.
Monday
Darling Barbara,
I hope that by now you will have received my letter. I was told on Saturday that letters take five days from here to London, which I thought was a bit much & was the reason why I sent you a wire as to my whereabouts. I don't suppose I shall hear from you for ages. It is depressing - just like being abroad. Will you come over here darling? Three or four people are getting their wives over straight away. I am told there is a bit of difficulty about getting a permit - but that they can be obtained. Have you found Warrenpoint on the map? It is on Carlingford Lock - just six miles from Newry & about 45 from Belfast. You would have to come via Stranraer & Larne. The routes to Belfast are open & I am sure are very safe - but I don't want you to come by the shortest crossing. You know darling
