Yanks filling up our three ships with
bombs. Rec party ashore to an atoll
to stretch our legs. Yanks landed with
hundreds of tins of beer and thought
that we were limeys, but when they
found out we were Aussies they opened
their arms to us and gave us as
much beer as we could drink (13).
One Yank got drunk and went for
a swim and got caught in the
undertow and was drowned. These
blokes are all going to push off
for the invasion of an island 250 miles
south of Japan. Picture party went
across to Yank transport and were
lashed up with icecream and drinks.

Went into sea maritime about 1000.
Terrific storm worked up during
forenoon but passed over suddenly
Convoy ready for sea again at 1200
looks like Leyte this time. Have got
no mail for 10 days so are
anxious to get to Leyte so that we can get
