of firewood -- At 1 PM rode in 'bus to race grounds -- saw ladies equestrian tournament exhibit -- 7 [entrers] -- also three running race and a bycicle race -- wrote my letter in the entry clerk's office at the gounds and sent it by the up bound excursion train when it came along -- at 6:15 -- rode in bus to Reno -- Evening wife & I went to the Railroad -- well crowded -- Splendid exhibit -- Bed at 10:30, tired -- Wife rode out to Fair grounds this PM with some neighbores, & saw races --

State Fair

Saturday Sept 24

Clear & very pleasat -- Got shaved and rode out to the Fair at 11 AM on 'bus in time to see the stock parade -- At noon Prof Monroe's balloon ascended from the grounds with a man on the trapeze in tighs and spangles like a circus rider about 1000 feet -- Up 4 minutes and descended just outside the horsesheds on the west side of the grounds near the gate about 300 yards from where it started -- No breeze. During the PM -- [pacing] -- & running races, etc -- Got on excursion train when it came along, and arrived at VA at 8:10 -- Wrote up report of Fair for Enterprise, took it to the office, staid & read proof -- Bed at 2 --

Clear & very pleasant -- Room all day, mending & fixing up generally -- Eveing down town -- Bed 1 --
