Mr Edwd. [Edward] Athawes

Rappa.[Rapahannock] July 13th 1736

Sir,

I have shiped [shipped] aboard the Charles forty five hhds of my Nephew's Tobo.[tobacco]; & yesterday a sloop went from hence with twenty hh'ds more for her, being one half of my home Crops on this River. these Tobaccoes are to be consigned you; & my Expectation of a Market for them are much raised by a true & general Complaint of the London Masters that their ships must unavoidably go Home with a grait [great] loss for want of freight & by what you tell me in some of your Letters that the Market will probably rise a Home upon Occasions of this shortness of the Crops & that mine sent you last year pleases your Customers better than any you had from this family. Capt. [captain] Dove was here a few days a go. How he will fair I know not, & the Apprehensions he seems to have are well grounded. He must certainly go away very short of his Loading. I wish it may otherwise

I am Sir

Your most humble Servt. [servant]

John Carter
