Empire Coal Company.

W. R. Arthur, Esq., General Superintendent of the
Illinois Central Road, Robert Hale, Esq., General
Superintendent of the Chicago and Alton Road, and
W. H. Cruger, Esq., Vice President of the Toledo, Peo-
ria and Warsaw Road, have each stated their anxiety
to see these mines worked to their full capacity, and
have assured the parties in interest that every facility
will be extended for transportation at the lowest rates
of freight.

7th. The investments in this stock cannot but be
profitable to the subscribers, and promise large and
immediate returns, and a permanent benefit to our
city.

The following letter from the eminent Geologist and
Naturalist, the discoverer of the tides in our lakes,
and the appointed observer of the Smithsonian Insti-
tute for the Northwest, resident at Milwaukee, con-
firming the foregoing statements, will be perused with
pleasure by all:
