it has universally pleased our customers, and many of them have preferred
it to any other Illinois coal. We hope you will be able to supply us with
all we may want this fall and winter.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill., March 1, 1865.

MESSRS. H. L. MARSH & CO., FAIRBURY,

GENTLEMEN: In reply to your favor regarding the quality of your coal,
I am most happy to inform you, that after thoroughly testing it both for
steam and heating purposes in our distillery, where we have been con-
suming some ten tons per day, I have discontinued the use of all other
coal, and consider yours the best and most economical of all Illinois coal.

Yours respectuflly,
WILLIAM S. VREELAND.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill., July 1, 1865.

I have used the coal from the Marshfield mines in my distillery at
Bloomington, and much prefer it to any coal I have ever used. I have
used the Peoria, Alton, Duquoin and Lasalle coal. We usually carried
about 120 lbs. steam to the inch.

Yours respectfully,
P. CURTISS.

the Marshfield mines, and have used it in my grates with perfect satisfac-

recommending it to any one who uses the Bituminous Coal. I am confi-
dent it is a good article for cooking puposes, with a stove suited for soft
coal. I further state that I have used the Briar Hill Coal, and cannot
recognize the difference in value claimed for it over the Marshfield Coal.

CHICAGO, March, 1865.

We have sold coal from the Marshfield mines for the last two winters,
and consider it the best quality of Illinois coal that comes to this market,
and it has always given entire satisfaction to our customers.

DEAR SIR: I am now using the ten tons of coal ordered by you for me,
from the Marshfield Coal Mines. By your request I have used it both in
