Two Crowned At Negro
Splash Day Ceremonies

The annual Negro Splash Day ceremonies were
held Saturday afternoon at Jones Lake.

The event is sponsorred by the Negro Chamber
of Commerce.

Miss Senior and Miss East Texas were chosen
from a field of 13 contestants.

Winning the title of Miss Senior was Miss Glady
Erwin while Miss Lessie Coutee won the Miss East Texas title.

Misses Dorothy McQueen and Betty Lewis placed
second and third in the Miss Senior contest.

Runner-up in the Miss East Texas contest was
Miss Ester Lyons.

Other contestants in the contest were Misses Lu-
cille Smith, Minnie Carrington, Virateen Johnson,
Sandra Berry, Pearlie Polk, Annie Lou Hopkins,
Elmora Clay and Ina Mae Kirksey.
