1852 augt 23rd Still cloudy & like for Rain did Rain Evening & in the night – worming fresh ground Tobacco this morning Halling Rocks & shrubing Corn ground If it does not Rain —Rained some but not much to day — Sent a letter by Mr EG Lewis morning to Colo Smith for Mrs McCullocks money for 2 Hhd Fodder My wife gone to Mrs Hunts. Jacob & Jerry yesterday

24th Rained several times yesterday nearly all night last night & Raining to day — we are spining making Baskets etc etc my wife not come home yet 10 Oclock Halled 3 Loads Rocks & Beet some cider

25 Still cloudy & misting Rain, worming & succoring Tobacco Beeting out flax seed.

26 Succoring & toping Tobacco, finished over this way & now Toping over, cleared off fine weather

27 Raining most all day to day — spining etc

28. Rained very hard all night & this morning very hard water courses very high, I expect there is a great freshet in River — spining making Baskets etc etc - sent to Mr James P. Lewis for my sack allum salt

29th I went to Wm B Banks Funeral Preached by Mr Scott at st andrews Fair pretty day ——

30th Fair Beautiful day little cool fixing Bridge at Spring sent to Mill this morning 6 Bus wheat & 2½ Corn & Sent wheat once before 10 Bushels in all for Horses negroes & flour & think sent 7 or 9 Bushels before to eat — worming & toping Tobacco this morning Jacob gone after Cate to day

31st Cutt a little Tobacco out new ground worming succoring & toping tobacco went on Staunton to Rent Mrs Clements childrens Land –

Sept 1st Pulled Fodder by Garden succoring Fresh ground Tobacco Toping in Lot - Halling Rocks Mr Walkup takes Mr Hendricks place in Teaching School this day - clear fine weather

1852 Sept 1st Engaged Bud Faris to Rive & draw shingles & find himself at Two Dollars a Thousand to be paid in wheat & Vinegar or something else.

2nd Went to Colo Dickensons Chalk Level for Mrs McCullock & to CH for Capt Fitzgerald & myself etc fine Day ———

3rd worming & succoring Tobacco & cut 23 stacks out of new ground that was firing

4th worming Lot Tobacco & finished & went in fresh ground Jordan Lowry & claiborne, Fed alse Sandy & Kitty sawing from 10 OC till night Henry went to Raise Barn at Doct Walkups Lila & Jordan Plowing at mountain field Something bit Pompeys fore Leg Swelled very much Stoped him @ 1 OC put Pain Killer on it & at Bathed it in mullin cloudy all night Rained & also day& [P?] top etc

5th fair & clear quite cool this morning Pompeys Leg Better 7th got Better & Kate got weddingto F Holys

9th Rain Rain, Rain, nearly every day & we have a good deal of fodder on the ground & we have cut about four Hundred stacks in new ground & to day Rained nearly all dayspining making Baskets etc etc

10th Spining Basket Making & mending Cates shoes Rained all night last night & this morning Bud Faris geting shoes & J. Tucker has got a few

11th cloudy & like for Rain this morning we are Beeting apples for vinegar,- Bet, one of our Milch cows Died Some time ago, Passing Blood seeming to be her complaint, last evening another cow Mary Died in same way Passing Blood. also one of our sheep Died in clover lot,- Very wet weather, & like to be so this morning cows are at mountain field where Mary Died

12th Strait Stone meeting Did not Rain this day & turned rather cooler & wind from N.W at night quite cool Fannie W & M F. here

1852 Sept 13th cleared off & very cool & not a cloud to be seen to day we are worming succoring Tobacco Tying up fodder which has been pulled a week & Cutting Fired Tobacco in Lot on Branch, one of my sheep Died Wm Plunket not at meeting yesterday -

14th Sent Fed to Mill this morning 9 Bushels wheat 2½ for fine flour worming & succoring Tobacco Hanging some Cut yesterday & Pulling fodder I am going to Settle business for Mrs McCullock

15th worming Toping & Succoring flat in Lot — Pulling fodder, the morning that they done yesterdayought to have

16. Cutting & Housing new ground Tobacco in the evening Tying up fodder cleared off very prettyweather

17th worming & succoring new ground & lot Tobacco firing Fair fine weather, moderate weather,

18. we have cut & Housed about 1700 Hundred Stackscut over all our Tobacco & out of all got about 1600 Hundred stacks, good fired with spots & some drowned, - worming fresh ground. Tyed up fodder last night put up 4 stacks Injured by wet,- pulling fresh ground fodder to day,- gathering peas etc etc

19. Fine weather, went to Harmony to day to Hear MRush

-20 Housing New ground Tobacco in new Barn. worming & succoring fresh ground Tobacco, some little cloudy gathering Peas & Expect to pull fodder to day the other side of the Branch weather moderate

21st Finished pulling fodder this evening Stacked 7 Stacks Blade like for Rain —

22nd Housing Tobacco in new ground. Barn or groundfresh Cutting Tops & firing Tobacco, cutting wood – cleared off this morning - gathering Peas, etc

23rd Finished pulling Blade fodder & Tyed some Tops - cutting tops on Branch

24 Began to Cut Tobacco & tying up fodder

25. Rained & cloudy friday & saturday some Blades on ground have put up 9 stack Blades all to Stack the other side of Branch

1852 sept 26th cloudy this morning, & like to Rain,- Turned cooler wind for 3 days S. E. -

27th Cutting & Hanging Tobacco on Branch in Lot & new ground Second Cutting in Lot In new ground this evening Stacking fodder at night cutting Tops in morning

28 Finished the Lot except Branch yesterday to day cutting on Branch & in new ground -

29th Sent Fed to Mill this morning 6 Bushels Wheat 2½ Bus. corn beautifull weather Began to Cut Tobacco in fresh ground this morning cutting Tops in morning Finished Stacking Blade fodder, put up 16 stacks one in House - fine weather —

30 Cutting Tobacco in fresh ground yesterday cut there to day we cut & Hung there

Oct 1st Stacking 1st stack First Cuttingtops, & gatheing Rice Beans

2 Finished Stack & gather Peas fine weather

3. fine day went to Mrs McCullocks

4- Fixing to Stack 2nd Stacks tops worming & Succoring tobacco & succorin like for Rain

5. cleared off we are stacking the other topsstack this morning clear fine weather at this

6th succoring & worming & Housing prize House of Tobacco 7th Finished & sent for my yearlings at McHaneysMrs

8 Cutting & Halling up fresh ground corn gathering Rice Beans cotton Peas etc etc clear & fair weather warm —

9th clouded up & looks like for rain Halling up corn after filing fresh ground Barn with fine Tobacco in the evening Rain all tho Tobacco we have cut in new ground Barn –

10 went to meeting Rained in night & all the (morning

11th Finished Halling up fresh ground corn shucked out 5 Bbls & put it in House Mr Wm Dews altered celam this day for me

1852 Oct 11th Firing our Tobacco very little as its all nearly been cured ——

15th Gathered about 5 Barrels corn Snap Beans Sawing Shingle Blocks - went to Court Housing Tobacco, not much frost & finished monday while I was at Court.

17th Carried 2 Stacks to Yates saw millweek last for Hhd staves heading —

20th Carrd to 2 to Millers 1 to be sawed squared Edged & 1 thro for sheathing Fine weather fannie White here

21 Began to Plow for wheat. Henry gone to Mill 2 Bus. new corn the first we have had On Sunday 17th Oct 1852 Doct white Came here to see clemintines Hand & cut it on the back & in Palm of the hand, also —I went to Court monday morning

22 Doct. White came again to see clementines Hand & cut off one of her Fingers, — — Harrowing in Rye cleaning out & drainingflat Plowing for wheat, Fanning out Wheat to sew.

26. we have been Sewing wheat ever since 22nd Cutting up Tobacco stubble. Lila in house 1 day Dr White here to day making 3 times to see clemshand Mrs smiths Sale, bot 1 Cow cut Reel Carving & forkKnife 1 Hhd 2 Vinegar Bbls 1 Box old Irons - etc -

28 29 & 30th we have finished sewing wheat out at Fresh ground. Sewed in Lot & out at fresh ground Bus 16½ Cut & stacking corn in fresh ground next to orchard & began to Plow there when it commenced Raining went to Mill a day or Two ago 5 Bus new corn

31st Oct Striping Tobacco at Overseers house none of our Hogs up this morning

Novr 1st Sawing shingles Blocks John Neal here sawing- Halling up corn Plowing for wheat cloudy & warm like for Rain,- Jno Tucker & A Faris getting shingles
