1872 Feby 27th Raining this evening & to night Weather moderate finished my plant Cover it in part Lowry here at again to day My 8th Shoats old sow & young one were Brot Home to day by Robt Tucker the young One has Weaned her pigs the old Sow is with Pig all look fine indeed

28 Lowry Halling Sand & Rocks at Mr Whiteheads place Sam malling Tommy & Ben Plowing Sam & Lewis has been shrubing Lowry & Andrew shrubing for Tommy in fresh ground cloudy & like for falling weather

29th Feby Snowed last night & to day Thrashing Oats & finished all in House Mr Terry came & put in back to Dining Chimney weather moderate - after we finished oats, the Boys Hitched Ben Lowry went to Shrubbing, yesterday I I went to Strait Stone to elect a Preacher elected Mr A B. Brown, weather Still cloudy

Friday 1st March 1872 Cleared off this morning Cutting Rail Timber around Corn field fence I Went to Mr Whiteheads to Send on Some letters to Richmond about Mr Hunts Est. & Jerrys

2nd Snowed last night & all day this day nearly Snowed Knee deep the deepest I ever Saw in my life, Stayed all night at Jerrys & Come home Sunday evening found every thing in bad fix hardly could get through the gates to House to find my Horse but thank God nothing here Dead 3 lambs

3rd Weather moderate Sunday found nobody but Sam at home Tommy Mrs Wyatt & Andrew & nearly all gone from home this [evening] to See Tom Neal buried at Martha Neals

1872 March 4th. Snow melted Smartly We Cleaned away Snow this morning about Hog pen, & Gates Masshed Cobbs for Cows got out our Peas, etc etc got all our Sheep in Lot have 3 Lambs to this day, Hogs all living Sam has done but little, Cut Trough at barn & put half of it in farm pen for our Cattle to eat Cobbs, the other to feed Sheep

5 March 1872 It has been quite cold all day Halled 1 Load dry wood & litewood & some wood Made little ladder at Mrs Wyatts to go up the loft then Made Bench for Tommy & they all Stoped & worked on Baskets & Brooms etc.

6 March 1872 We have not done much to day Fanned Out Oats made Brooms & Baskets etc pretty day over Head, & moderate,

7th Sewed over plant Bed on road to[wards] Mr Lewis this morning Cloudy & like for rain Weather moderate at this time

8th. Cloudy & cool & sometimes rains Tommy to Mill (Millers) with chop for cows rained last night some Sam & Ben finishing rail Timber Cutting around corn field I am quite unwel.l Every Second Saturday in every month since last Christmas has been disagreeable days for Our meeting at Strait Stone Church

9th. Raining some I did not go to S S M House because the day was disagreeable and I was Poorly with a bad Cough & Cold Mr J M Moses was there nobody else but Mr Stone & Yates Rained in the day Several times

10th. Rained all night last night & all day this day nearly I am poorly hardly about [in margin] opened Our Lugs Raining this morning & Finishing Striping in old prize Barn to day at 12 oclock

1872 Finished striping in old prize Barn to day March 11th. Began to Rain Soon this morning & about 9th Began to Snow & I tell you it Snows but the ground is so wet it melts as fast as it falls weather not very cold,

12th Striping Tobacco in new prize Barn to day Snowed Some last night & if the ground had not been So wet the snow would have quite Deep, last night very rough on Stock but every thing is alive this morning, cleared off about 9 or ten oclock & the Snow is nearly all gone to night, yesterday evening Millard Whitehead Came down after JRW Stack of Oats at Templeton, started home this morning tolerable soon

13th I sent Tommy & Ben after Load straw at Mr Hunts place, I went to Primas Shop at Beach tree Shod Bill behind & I borrowed 5 lb] Iron of him, Sam Halling Wood & Leaves to Stables & cow pen & halled Stack Oats next to Orchard,- this evening

14th Sent Tommy & Ben to Mill Cart & waggon Carried Corn for ourselves ½ Bbl ½ Bbl for S Matt[herly] Some for Martin Smith & Some for Sam & 10 Bus. Wheat for flour to Yates's Mill

15th Malling in new ground Tommy & Sam & Ben Adrew shrubbing in Corn field above Granary this morning Nannie & Lewis Nannie ) Went to Mrs Colemans & from there expected to go to See Fannie Moses & Come back tomorrow night to Mrs Colemans & home Sunday evening — Windy & Cold

16 Sam Malling Andrew burning Brush Tommy & Ben gone after straw at old place, Tolerable good day thank the Lord,

17th Snowing this morning & last night my Wife Caught from home stoped at 9 or 10 oclock not very cold now

1872 March 12th. Myself & Saml Mattherly made a bargain, about making a Shed Room this end of my Granary next to my House & fixing the Shed on the other end South End he is to fix up Strong & good for my Stable & make 4 good Stalls & make a door & Shutter next to the road to go in at, make a trough & Cut out part of 2 Log across to feed inside etc to fix that off in a proper manner as I want it & the plank now in that floor to make the floor The other Side Plank up the Stalls etc etc Take doors there for the other end & window etc. He is to get Sills & Plates & Corner Posts etc for the close room for my Fan Machine etc. & fix up the doors one inside & one at the end to pass the Machine out & in Weather Board & shingle it good So as not to leake, I am furnish Shingles weather boarding & sheeting & hall up the timbers when suits my business & help up put it together When he gets ready furnish nails etc - For which work when completed or the work is done I am to give him Fifteen Dollars, & If at any time he I want him to do any other work in my plantation I am to give him forty cents a day for it.

1872 March 13. I have agreed with Sam Mattherly when I go or Send to Mill to Carry Some for him & I every time I go or Send for him he is to do ½ a days work for me the times we go for him is below March 14th. To mill 1 time for you ½ days work —30 Dr Cart & Steers ½ day to go Mill ½ days work

May 4 Dr ½ days workSettled in full for Sending to day —

May 18 Dr ½ day work for going to Mill carriedtowardsbeginning
