1870 Feby 8th My Hog came runing up to day Somebody was after them 2 shoats & 3 bigs[pigs] one missing did not come

9th. Finishing striping Tobacco in barn back of Garden this morning went to Halling wood waggon & cart. Sam broke the Cart tongue this evening - Snow all gone this evening

10th. Keatts & Mr Whitehead made Cart tongue to day Keatts made wood body for our waggon Sam went to Plowing on Hill in Lot beyond the Tobacco Lot. Nat Plowing below shop Ben & Caroline cleaning up before plow. Richard got chaff to day - etc etc Weather moderate enough Mr W W Moses here to day, 6 Lambs to this time

11th Plowing in Lot by Grave Yard — & shrubbing etc -

12 I went to meeting Sam plowing young steers & finished plowing on Hill by Grave Yard & went down in the field next to Cross fence the other side of Branch

13 Went to meeting Jerry come down

14 Sam Plowing in big field - Keatts finished Plowing Potatoe Lot & 2 little places in yard & plowing in corn field by Granary -

15 Raining striping Tobacco & took down all the Lugs & seconds in Barn at Richards back of Garden & owens Barn & striped some in old prize barn I went to Yates Mill & carried for myself 1 Bbl corn for meal 3 Bus for Richard for meal 3½ Sorry wheat for chop 1½ Bus corn for Sam 2½ Bushels wheat for Richard flour 1 Bbl wheat, got all but my wheat

1870 Feby 16th. Cleared off last night & tolerably clear this morning - Malling Edmond B Fitzgerald came here to board & Go to school the 14th Feby 1870.

17th Malling again to day, I went to Yates Mill to day Carried 5½ Bus. wheat for 1 Barrel flour for us, carried also 3 Bus Chop stuff for Cows brot home 1 Bbl flour for us chop stuff & Hhd road very bad, Cloudy all day, - weather moderate

18th Rained all day nearly Turned off very cold & windy stayed at home striping Tobacco

19 I went to Starkeys malling & burning Brush to day etc - Nat went home this evening

20th Commencing Snowing soon this morning snowing in evening hard stop snowing in the evening & turned Very Cold -

21st. Doing nothing to day very cold & did not melt scarcely any - clear to night Wind N W nearly all day Coldest weather We have had this winter Ic[e] a plenty, -

22nd Halled some dry wood to day weather more moderate, Halled up little stack Oats I bot of Sam Mattherly Corner of fence on Hill Halling wood this evening, Keatts & Sam steers & mules Halled Snowing at night

23 Snowed last night about 1 Inch deep my young had 7 pigs loss 2 of them in pasture Mr Wooding got his sows & Boar shoat I One of my shoats yesterday come up caught it & put it in pen with one in there, let Sam have 8 lbs Bacon for his & Ben striping Tobacco for me & meal for 2 weeks they have striped 8 days now

24 cutting some big Logs in new ground Swingling some flax this evening fixing wagg[on] on to go after oats I went to Jacobs to day

1870 25 Feby I went with 2 waggons to Mrs Hunts place Mr Keatts & Sam after Stack Oats to day Feby 25 to sew bot of E. Templeton year 25 before last, - Carried to day to Yates Mill 5½ Bushels wheat for flour to sell got Home with the oats about 2 oclock,

27 Malled in new ground Mr Keatts & Sam I went to Starkeys & he was not at home

28 Feby will be gone to night raining this morning Doron & Ed went to St Andr[ews] to meeting moderate weather Sam halling wood Monday, Nat burning brush Keatts gone to Yates Carried 3½ wheat for me to Making 14½ Bus good wheat there to make 3 Bbl flour 2 Good & 1 second for $20. L Yates to sell it & keep the proceeds for work on my waggon the Bran & Balance of flour is mine Sent 1 Bus. wheat for my Cows I lent Keatts 2 Bags & I will have 6 at the Mill Keatts Carried Turn for himself Corn & 2½ Bus wheat Saml sent corn for meal & brot it back -

March 1st. Sent Mr Keatts to Mr Starkeys to Roll logs Sam & Nat Plowing for corn, Nannie & me went to Mr Woodings in evening I went down to Dawsons & Tom Lains hunting & back home will cut wood & prepare to burn 2 2nd March 1870 plant bed this evening to burn in the morning one of my 5 Pigs is missing 2 yesterday morning & this morning I suppose gone

3 Keatts & Sam Plowing for corn Keatts finished fresh ground this evening pretty day

4th lent Richard Bill last evening to go to Mr Glenn Raining some Sam & Keatts plowing Sam has got steers Keatts with double plow on Branch mules cleared off about 12 Oclock again Richard returned, Mr R Jones Richard Jones Dead 7 Lambs to the day 5 Loading waggon with Tobacco for Lynchg Monday morning fine day

1870 March 6th Raining snowing & Hailing this morning quite Cold,I went to old place to see If they were ready to start to Lynchg they are not ready -

7th Richard whitehead started to Lynchg with waggon & Sam Gilbert went with him to day about 10 Oclock, Keatts Caroline Nat Lewis & Ben began to thrash out Oats after dinner, Bot 3 Barrels ½ & little over of Corn Shelled from Wm T Shields & paid him $1 pr Bushel, cleared off to day & snow nearly gone weather moderate

8 Thrashing Oats all day & finished 1 stack tolerable Cool I went to old place to see Creed Tucker about getting some seed Oats he did not come, quite cold

9. began to Hall wood steers turned the yoke fell in the ditch at Bridge & done badly stoped halling at 12 Oclock Cutting wood & fixing to burn plant Bed in the morning weather a little more moderate

10th Burnt Plant Bed above new ground to day 11 yds Square, fenced it in & sewed it cabbage seed there that came from Mr Wm W Moses Sewed the other Plant Bed in new ground Sam burned in new ground over again with Tobacco seed & my own cabbage seed Beautiful day this 10 day March 1870 got a Box of wafers & Pens the first I ever bot Richard got home to day about 1 Oclock gone 4½ days 12 Keatts malling Sam Halling Rails to make Garden on Hill & manure on it & then Halled some in Garden also ashes Rained smartly in evening — I went to Strait meeting.

1870 March 13 I went to S Stome meeting

14th Keatts & Sam Malling wood & Rails in new ground till 12 oclock, Sewed clover seed in Tobacco Lot by old prize Barn Soon this morning in evening Keatts halled up 1 stack oats from Johns field & then halled wood Sam Halled manure in Garden till night, -high winds from N

15 Cutting Malling & burning brush in new ground very cold & windy -

16th Cutting Malling in new ground Making hand sticks Halling wood etc Very Cold yet, - Sewed plant Beds over last week, - Windy to day

17th Very Cold & Windy worked awhile in new this morning Keatts went 11 oclock to invite Mr Starkey & Mr Wooding to helph us roll Logs tomorrow & Sam went to Mr Lewis's Allen John & Robt Wallers Danl Forest Garland Laines & Lowry to ask them to help Roll Logs tomorrow.

18 Rolled our Logs in new ground above Granary had 12 or 13 hands took us all day to get done made heaps, Very pretty day for March

19 Sam Plowing, Keatts & Doron gone to Mr Joseph Moses to get 20 Bushels Wheat toll, of machine the Balance 2 Bus. & over Mr Moses will sell to pay expenses of machine, Sent Kate 3 /- Ben owed her

20 stayed at home day cloudy a little

21st Rained this morning soon & then cleared off Fanned out stack oats from Mrs Hunts bot of Edmond Templeton 29½ Bushels measured & began to Sew at Mountain fine weather clear Bill Plowing from 12 oclock till night

22nd fixing land & sewing oats Bill will Plow till 12 oclock
