1874 Nov 7th We did not go meeting on acct of fighing fire on mountain & watching fire all day I went 8 Watching fire did not go to Strait Stone 9th Putting out fire again this morning soon [Martin g] & myself watching fire nearly all day Ed & Jimmy went to Plowing for wheat by Eds House Martin & Nanny shucking corn in evening 10 Ed & Jimmie finished sewing wheat over at New Barn in Tobacco Bowden wheat [d???? 10 yd] I went to Mount Airy sold Mr Creasey some Butter got Miss Frankey cotton 11 Pulling corn on Branch to day except Jimmie who is gone to Mill Yates for Ed Martin Meal 12 Pulling & Hauling corn off Branch to day I went to Mr Pews after my shoes got them -13th David Fitzgerald come down here last night got waggon cart & Jimmie & will move to [Mo????] day to live with me 1875 & is to help us get up [&] House Our corn he has got some wheat to Sew Fine Weather our folks Pulling off corn & will shuck this evening 14 Pulling & Hauling up corn over road below new prize Barn I went to [S L M] to Grange Davy did not help Ed get up corn to day (the word yesterday was crossed off) 15 We Stayed at home all day quite cool & Hazy 16 Pulling & Hauling up corn to day Davy & his wife helping above Granary. cloudy -- Cut my Boar this morning & Turned him in lot with him & Widows Wyatts sow have got up [10] to Kills sow [ham] belongs to Mtrs Wyatt 17 Pulling & Hauling corn to day I went to Mr Moses 18- Fixing to shuck corn tomorrow Sent to Mill & finishing getting up our corn 24 [lbs] [Pickted] Beef 5.5 [lbs] Bacon & 10 1/2 [lbs] flour Ed to pay 1/2 of to shuck corn tomorrow - to find hand, 19th Raining this morning nobody came to Shuck Corn got Some wood went to striping in barn back of Garden Weather cooler 20th Raining a little this morning nobody comes to shuck Hauling wood to Kill Hogs & fixed to Kill tomorrow David & Jim cutting stalks to [Saw] wheat Killed Hogs this morning & salted & shucked 22nd Some corn & Housed it Edmd Tucker helped us to day Stayed at home all day Sunday

1874 Monday 23rd Rained some got some wood broke down my Cart wheel, invited hands to Shuck Corn, [S????] & Rained in evening __ 24th Shucking Corn 18 or 20 hands - getting [say] 25 wood Killing Hogs in [getting] David went to Yates to get Waggons [?????????ed] but did not do any Carried my cart wheel & [axl????] to Yates that Broke down - cleared off fine winter weather 25 Housing my corn Davy went to Yates 26 I went to S Stone & paid Mr Blair [Treasur] my Taxes Jerry Mary James & Miss Susan [here] Housing corn but not done yet. We made about 60 Barrels long & short & 16 Stacks Fodder Small made -- clear pretty weather 27th Hauling & Housing Corn Shucks &C 28 Winding up corn Shucks &C pulling away Greens getting wood fixing (wood) fencing (the second "wood" is stricken out) fodder Stacks &C putting away Seed Cabbage & Beets 29th Doug Fitzgerald [moved] all his things here yesterday quite cool & windy to day Rained nearly all night last night 30th Edmond Cutting wood Martin choping Dec 1st Hauling wood to day & stalks Martin Packing away to [fid] with I went to Mount Airy today quite cool & windy 2nd Dec. Ed cutting wood & Hauling stacks Martin choping round stumps & shrubing Jimmie went to Cedar Hill & got 3 1/2 Bbls good corn the 4th for [Jerry] from H Lains I went there to attend to Measuring up for Jerry more there yet David Fitzgerald cutting wood clear pretty day - 3rd Hauling up stalks for cows 4 Same work & finished all above House 5 Cutting wood Hauling brush for [co???] Shellers & covering Turnip Patch I went to Mr Whitehead Friday & come back Saturday 6 Sunday Raining a little Several hours to day 7 Striping Tobacco to day Doug & Nannie Kate & Jane Striping.

1874 Dec 8th Cutting & Hauling wood to day I went to Mount Airy but did not [sell] my Turkeys 9th Fixed to Kill Hogs Hauled & cut wood till 12 Oclock then went to cutting wood on Johns branch for plant Bed cloudy & weather warmer 10 cutting & malling & getting wood to burn plant Bed tomorrow morning weather moderate my 2 Sows has good 4 pigs a piece & no more expected 8 or or 9 ps. - 11 Burning Plant Bed on Johns Branch 12 [Hoing] up fencing & sewed our Plant Bed cloudy & like for falling weather quite Cold this morning - 13 Went to Meeting S S to day 14 Killing my Hogs this morning - all I got - & salted them [this] morning Edmd Tucker helped about it & Piling Stalks 15. Cutting some wood in morning cutting down 16. Hauling stalks to day cloudy & like for Rain or Snow to day Davy Fitzgerald making Bars this evening very cold - & cloudy put our Shoats over in lot by corn House our up this morning & I fed them both -- 17. Cutting & Hauling ups stalks 18th Same work & cutting wood 19th Hauling & cutting wood to day 20th Raining last night & this morning & to day My 2 old sows had 4 pigs a ps. 10 days ago. & I turned out in woods my 3 shoats Raised about house 1 Boar & 2 Sows as [Breeders] 21 Cleared off last night to day I went to Mount Airy Ed cutting & malling wood Davy made Eds shoes in evening Fanned out Wheat made about 46 Bushels, Martin not here quit last Friday & has to pay for every day till Christmas divided & delivered Ed there [pd] 22 Jimmie gone to Mill for Ed [he] Cutting & malling wood I [dontt] Know what Davy is at

1874 Dec 22nd Planted our Onions in Garden [??] Decemr 1874 Ed Plowed the [Squared] & [?????] fixed it & we Planted them today & Saturday 23 Cutting & Hauling wood [to day more] wood 24 Cutting up & Hauling Lightwood Mr Geo Gilbert Died yesterday & was to be Buried to but was not as Mr Brown did not Come to Preach his funeral appointed for tomorrow 25 Dec Fine morning pretty day I stayed at home 26 Dec. Raining this morning weather moderate 27. Raining this morning Weather moderate 1874 28 Cloudy & like for rain this morning 29 Tuesday cloudy & like for rain moderate weather 30th Fine day, I went to Mount Airy after my Papers & got them & sent letter to Messrs Kennedy & Co to day for Seven Seals or Golden Wonder Medicine to cure Piles &C &C &C &C Let H Templeton have 4 31st & last day Dec 1874 1st Snow last night Have got Will [Cakes NeuBar] for Sick Horse [nucks Vomicar] for Horse did not cover the ground Cloudy & quite Cold agreed this morning to let Lowry Graves have My Yount Steer Ben when he brings me Twenty Dollars Cash a week to day since any work has been done, frollicking all the time 1875 Jany 1st Cloudy & cool & like for snow our folks all went to work Cutting down Pines in Corn field above Pear Trees. [?] 2nd Jany 1875 began to Hail & Rain yesterday about 1 oclock & Kept on last night & at it yet, very slippery & bad walking this morning Edmond [Dews] & Jimmie have engaged to Stay here this year 3rd Jany 1875 cloudy nearly all day 1st Sunday stayed at home weather not very cold 4th Fixed 1 pr Bars at Granary Edmd do but little no Davy I went to Mr Powers got no no Shoes Ed got in [Twist] about his part of fodder dont want me to have any of his [??? ??] If he could help unless I give double prize

1875 Jany 5 Cloudy & like for more falling weather Hauling up my fodder & putting [?] in the House to day, Hauled 1 Stack of [mine] & 1 stack of Edmonds & put them 2 in Cutting house on Hill to Keep till next Spring - Dividing & Hauling up Edmonds to day - cloudy all day & fair [R???] 822 [lbs] Blade fodder - 411[lbs] @ 4/? & 411 [lbs] @ 65 cts which last is not good still cloudy 6th Put fodder got of Edmd up Granary [loft] Martin Helped & Jimmie took my Cart & carried over to [????? ??? ????] his House - where he lives Hauling wood & Cutting up below new prize Barn 7 Rained & freesing last night & Raining this morning quite cold Edmond Jimmie & Nannie striping Tobacco Martin not here Davy making Bars in old prize Barn. Put Spot & which Calf over road below new prize Barn 8th Hanging up Tobacco this morning Cutting fire wood, Spot had a cow calf yesterday evening rained & freesing this morning Clear & pretty till this evening cloudy & looks like falling weather again -- 9 Cutting & Hauling wood, I went to Meeting S.S. quite Cold very few people Mr Booker there the first time,- 10 Very pretty & cold morning, Thermometer down to 8 colder than it has been lately 11th Cloudy & Cold Morning Sam [Roper Rosser? ??ranged] & sent to [???] Cutting wood for Plant Bed above fresh above granary toward Miss Neales Let Cate milk Spot- for the milk for his children, only take 1/2 the milk for 1 [one], week & Wm . is to help Miss Frankey When She [Want h?? ???] 12 Cutting & malling & [g??tting] dry wood for to burn Plant Bed I went to Mount Airy after Mail &C Began to rain & [freese] about 12 oclock, bad time on [??oeke] this evening 13 Sleet this morning quite [cold] & Jay striping Tobacco this morning, cloudy no [weather??] falling soon --
