Antonio María Suñol collection, 1854-1869.

ReadAboutContentsHelp
Four documents relating to Antonio María Suñol. Three of them deal posthumously with matters pertaining to his estate. Don Antonio Maria Suñol was born in Barcelona, Spain on June 13, 1797. Family sympathies toward France during the period of rebellion against Napoleonic rule of Spain prompted Suñol's move to France in 1808. After serving in the French Navy, Suñol came to California in 1818. He settled in San Jose, married into the Bernal family, became a prosperous merchant and landowner, and a benefactor to the Catholic Church. Suñol died in San Jose on March 18, 1865. The town of Sunol in Alameda County is named after him.
