Notice why some words are misspelled.
Words are liable to be misspelled by sound.
Words are liable to be misspelled on account of silent letters.
Words are liable to be classed with wrong letters.
In a month or two we should have large classes
of words. As thin ice is marked dangerous
so we should select the words most likely
to be missed and call them the dangerous
list. About 3/4 three fourths or one half of our
words are spelled as they sound. This can be
narrowed down to one word in six or seven. No
allowance for a slip of the pen.
Rule I - Final "e" silent.
Hunt out fifty or sixty words. In some we find
the e dropped, in others retained. Notice
the good reason for every exception.
