Dear Mother,

Your very kind & acceptable
letter of the 29th June was received the 6th inst. -- &
I was very happy to hear that you were all enjoying
good health & I sincerely hope that inestimable bless-
ing may be continued to you all -----

My health remains good, & at the present time
I am very comfortably situated & I mean to enjoy
what comfort I can during the remainder of my
stay in this country, which at best is nothing
when compared with the blessings & comforts I enjoy-
ed at home. The value of which I did not then ap-
preciate -- but I now know their value -----

You wished to know why I left Natchez. The prin-
cipal reason why I did so you easily surmised. viz
because I could not fare half so well there as I
can have in the city. Then, there I was among entire
strangers while here I flatter myself that I have
a few friends at hand, -- & I have found it to be
much pleasanter to live among friends -- Again
Natchez is a small out-of-the-way place, & I found
it very difficult to forward letters to my friends
safely as well as to recieve [receive] them. For those reasons
together with a sort-of dislike I formed towards
the place & people there induced me to leave there
so I left there forthwith & arrived here safely.
