San Francisco Feby. [February] 8th 1854

My Dear Mother

I am well as usual & although
I have no news to tell you, thought I would
write you a few lines, as I have promised to
write by every mail which I take pleasure in
doing always, -- therefore shall continue to write
you as often as I have done heretofore --

Your letter dated Jan 2d I recieved [received] the
4th inst. & was indeed happy to hear that you
were all well & getting along so nicely during
the cold stormy weather, & I hope the whole
winter will pass as agreeably to you all
as the first part has done --

When I read your account of the "pleasant-
ries of your home" dispelling the dunlist [dullest] hours
&c. H. practicing her music, C. making his
appearance from the Store & other pleasant
things which you mentioned, I almost felt
home-sick & had it not been that I have
outgrown such feelings. I should have been
homesick -- as it was, I heartily wished myself
with you, participating of your enjoyment,
making more complete the friends circle, when
I might possibly render our enjoyment more
complete. If such could be the case I should indeed
