My Dear Mother,

This is a beautiful day ---
Sunday too -- How I wish I could have been at home
this morning to attend church with you all, and
listen to a discourse by Mr Babbidge, but all
the forenoon Mr Noyes [Ephraim Noyes] and I have been here in
our room, talking and thinking about our
New England "home and friends"

Mr N. has written two or three letters and
I have been looking over my things that I brought
from home with me. -- and the miniatures that
you have sent me, since I left home -- and
which I would not part with for $50 apiece
unless I was destitute.

I received your letter of the 16th May by last
mail, and before reading it felt rather dis-
appointed to think I did not receive your min-
iatures, at the same time. But after reading
your letter I felt satisfied for you wrote that
C. & H. had had, bad colds and were unwell
which I was sorry to hear, and I hope they
are both well at the present time, and
that you have ere now found it convenient
to get your miniatures taken, and that I shall
receive them by the next mail steamer sure
