San Francisco July 29th 1855

My Dear Mother,
Your kind and very
acceptable letters dated June 17th and July 2nd were
both received yesterday, together with your mini-
atures --- which now lie on my writing desk
before me. I am delighted with the miniatures
as I consider them good pictures and I presume
they are good likenesses --- Harriet has changed
very much since I left home, and has also
changed somewhat since, she sent me her
miniature last year. The change however is
a decided improvement in her looks -- she now
appears to be as tall as you are and is a
fine looking girl. Charles has changed since
I saw him but not as much as Harriet has.

He appears to be taller than either you or
H. [Harriet] and I do not know but what he is the
tallest one in the whole Parker Family -----

You, judging from the likeness I received
of you yesterday, seem to have changed the
least of all of us, unless I except myself.

Your miniature that was taken in the
Fall of 1850 was on a much larger scale, so
they do not show the features alike, still I
do not think you have altered much as far as
