Dear Father and Mother

I received your very wel-
come letter of July 1st by the last Mail. I am very
sorry to hear that times continue so hard but
I can assure you that times are not so easy here
as people at home imagine. people at home think
that if they were once in California they
are sure of a pile but this is all in my
Eye. if a person wants proof of what I say let
them look at home and see the hundreds that
have left and see how few gets back with their
piles or take the amount (say two hundred dollars
ahead) of the crowd that started and see if it
arnt more money than they have got among
them now piles and all.

The claim I worked at all the winter has prove-
d a failure and I have no claim at present
but I must hunt up another and try again.

My wife has not been right well since the sick
spell two years ago. Indeed she is very often
sick in bed two or three days at a time
and as poor davy [Davy] said there it is again
by the way how is Davy getting along?
