My dear old Sned:

I have just received a telephone message
from Mr. Spear's office that letters sent General
Delivery today [underlined] to Eureka will reach you so here
goes for a few lines. Mother is still up at
Mt St Helena Inn where I hope she will stay
to the end of next week. Jocelyn is with her
trying hard to get a buck. He says he will stay
there until he gets one, and then he is coming home.

I am all alone at home and will be glad
to see you. I suppose you may get back the
end of the week but I hope you will let me
know as I cannot make any plans for myself
as long as I am in doubt. You have certainly
had a great and instructive trip and it was
very kind of Mr. Spear to telephone or rather
have his office telephone me of your whereabouts.

Nor writes cheerfully. He had been ordered to
immediately seize & search a rebel vessel that
was leaving Vera Cruz. He got into a steam
launch but could not overtake her so the
Navy sent a gunboat after them. He seems
well but says he would like to see Alameda.

One or two letters came from Les some time
ago. I dont know where he can be unless he
