Your letter written Sept 9th from
a dugout close to the front came
this morning - and it certainly
wrings our hearts to know that
you are [underlined] so near the front:

And we were startled to hear
of your finding it to easy to
get used to the danger & walking
through woods without your
helmet and gas mask.!

I suppose there is little use
