My very dear old Snedward:

When I came home the evening of the 23rd
Mother was all keyed up, and said "There are three
letters from Edward". I looked at her and asked
if everything was O.K. She said " yes, but he has gone
through terrific experiences. I sat down and devoured
them. You certainly did have the Good Lord with
you, and I dont know how you came out of it alive,
nor do I know how after going through such an experience
you had the nerves left to sit down and write all
those pages of explanation. I hope the honors come to
you, but whether they do or not, we are proud of you
our own dear boy. You did your duty, and showed
initiative and horse sense, and I am glad it was
recognized. I have had copies of the letter struck
off on the typewriter, and sent one to each of your
brothers. Helen says Norman will go wild when
he reads it, and finds that his Kid brother is doing
things while he a regular is stationed at Olongapo.

Dick will also feel envious. I wish I could be with
them when they read it, and hear their remarks.
We have cautioned each one to say nothing of
the D.S.C. or C de G. as requested by you.

I must wait until you come home to hear more
about the affair, as there must be much more to
what you say you did, to merit the distinction of
being commennded by the Major, 2 Colonels, a French Officer
and your General. We have had the Halls, Lions
