fortunate being under Captain
Philson
at the camp. He is a
splendid fellow, and I am sure
he makes an excellent instructor.

There is no dope here about
what we are going to do. I don't
expect to be here next year, though,
and I certainly don't want to
hibernate here all during the war.

Mother wrote of having seen
you the other day, and spoke of
how handsome you looked in
your uniform. She has enjoyed
her stay in California very
much, and I think she hates to
leave. We have been trying to persuade
her to visit us again this summer.

Except for colds, we are all well.
As you suspect, Jack is a big boy
now, and we expect him to start
going to school [tomorrow - crossed out] next
fall. The other kids are growing
fast too. We would need a few
more tents now than we had
