showed her one of each, and told her that the C.G.
with palms was a very great honor, that she should
be very proud as it was their highest military
decoration. Hurrah for Snedward!! Every one
we tell seems very delighted, and yesterday both
Mother and I were treading air all day. We do hope
that you will soon be released and sent home.

How did you get along without your pay cheque
on your trip to Nice. You expected to be quite hard
up, but as you cabled, I feel you must have
gotten hold of some money some way. We are
going to continue addressing you 32nd Div, until
we hear to the contrary. When you get through
with the French citation, we would like to see it,
as no doubt it is a personal one, and not
a general one like the American one which came
yesterday. Mother, Les, Jos & I are all well.

We have not heard from you since Helen arrived
there, but there ought to be a letter before long.
Dick writes that he is well and wants to know
if he is getting copies of all letters received by us
from you. He is still on the Cincinnati c/o Postwards
New York City, and says they have just changed
Captains. Lesley is teaching in the University High
in Oakland & Jos is back in college.

Lots & lots of love to you my dear boy
and here's hoping you will soon be coming
home to us all.

Always your loving father,
HLA Bates
