Dear Ed —

Well, Happy New Year
to you too. Your postal arrived
a few days ago and I was indeed
glad to know that you were
still safe and sound. You know
it got all round that you were
missing or lost! Several people
made the remark and it seemed
to be generally accepted. How
those false reports. Sure do get out!

Funny thing, but just
this time last year I got a
letter from you from Camp
Kearney. California. I answered
it but fear you never received
it as I never heard. It seems
to me that they rushed you
across pretty quick. Guess poor
old Uncle Sam needed all the
men he could get to strike the
final fatal blow to "der Kaiser."

So you miss the old campus
