My dear old Sned:

I enclose the usual July cheque, addressing this
letter to the Allerton as you say you are getting
your mail there. There is a big convention of
the Amr Med Asso on here. I suppose the RRs gave
cheap round trip tickets, and I wondered if you
were going to take advantage of the rates, but
of course if you are substituting for a month
you could not leave in the middle of it. It must
be great for these Doctors to get away from the
great heat of the East, and meet in a place
where they can work without discomfort. Last
week was very disagreeable out here, high and
continuous wind and cold. Sunday however
was ideal. Martha & the babies
went to Brookdale for a month this a.m. Jos
I suppose will stay with us, and drive down
Sat nights and come back Sunday night. He
does not expect any vacation this year, it
being his first year with the concern.

The Maryland is supposed to arrive San Pedro on
Saturday and San Francisco Sunday, but we don't
know anything definitely. We wanted Mother
to go with Martha but she of course wants to see
old "Cherd".

I got your letter last week in response
to mine on the marriage subject. You have
misconstrued some of my statements. I did
not say Jos was regretting his marriage, I said
he felt humiliated at having to be partly supported
by his wife's people as he is unable at this
time on his present salary to support his family
