Monday, Aug. 27,

Sweetheart,

We are now in a hotel
in Rumford, Maine — sixty miles from
Rangely on our home ward way, at
least on our way to Lake George. It
has been a very slow day, as once
more we got off the state road
and walked miles on a back country
road with no hitches, the other two
are very poor hikers, expect moun-
tainous country to have level roads,
and complain at the foot of every
hill, and tire out very easily. I
enjoy hills and would have a much
better time with more congenial people,
you for instance.

We stayed three days in
Rangely, arrived late Friday after-
noon, went to a hotel and were in-
formed that the rates were eight
dollars a day each, quite a shock,
so we scouted around and
finally located a room in a very
nice and perfectly immaculate house
