Sweetheart;

It is now six-twenty A.M.
and I haven't been to bed yet, had
no bet to go to, last night we camped
out at Lake George. Two hundred and
sixty miles from N.Y. and as I lay
on a hillside under the stars, thinking of
you. I suddenly decided that I sim-
ply had to reach N.Y. today. I had
to read your letters there waiting for
me. The task seemed impossible, I
had to tactfully keep Peggy and Ruth
moving, suggesting at the end of each
ride that we take one more hitch, until
we reached Newburgh, then we took
a ride in a huge wholesale grocery truck
