Saturday June 8 '18.

Went on the flying list this morning &
went out to fly in the evening but they
didn't get around to me. Had to write a
letter to his highness the Major to tell him why I was
absent from drill & class.

Sunday June 9 '18.

I hope that this morning's inspection
was my last. I heard tonight that
Jef Meyers was killed at Chatereux.
One of the boys, Coles, who had just
received his commission was killed this
afternoon.

Monday June 10 '18.

That big bone head put me on with
a large list of fellows to wash planes
tomorrow because my excuse for
absence didn't suit him. Coles was
burried this afternoon. No flying tonight
because of rain. Went to my first
class this morning.

Tuesday June 11 '18.

I got up late and went out to the
plane washing late, and with my
mouth full of bread and jam. The sun
was in my eyes and I didn't see that
the Major was calling the role, until
I got right up to him. He called me out
in front of the formation and gave
me a lecture. My cheeks were bulged
out with bread and jam, and I had
the other piece up my sleeve. He
