Ten 12 Jany 1817

Dear Genl I have written to Col [Butler?] twice on the subject of an order to the city for the purpose of closing my accounts with the War Department but have received nothing [decision?] my friends are anxious that I should leave the Service with much reluctance promised them to do so when I have settled my accounts. As I intend renewing my Studies I have not a moment to loose. I shall therefore consider an order at this time a particular favor With much respect Your most obt servt
