Ten 12 Jany 1817

Dear Genl
I have written to Col [Butler?]
twice on the subject of an order to the
city for the purpose of closing my accounts
with the War Department but have
received nothing [decision?] my friends are
anxious that I should leave the Service
with much reluctance promised them
to do so when I have settled my
accounts. As I intend renewing my
Studies I have not a moment to loose.
I shall therefore consider an order
at this time a particular favor
With much respect
Your most obt servt
