Mon Sept 3 Quite nice but rather too warm for comfort. John and I picked fruit all day plums and crabapples and I irrigated. Finished the little meadow above the house then watered the potatoes the little plum batch and the piece North of the barn. Judge Osburn was here and got a few Lombards Duanes purple and some Gidion apples to exhibit at the state fair.

Tues Sept 4 Quite a nice day to day [today]. Johny and Mother and I went to town this morning had quite a lot of Lombard plums and I tried peddling with varied success but on the whole got them off. Had some crabs but fetched some of them home again. We got 7 or 8 dollars for what we sold and I guess that we have paved the way to sell more fruit over in town.

Wed Sept 5 Hot and dry. Johny picked and took over to town some plums and crabapples. I mowed oats on the windy hill place. Found it a pretty hard shaky job.

Thurs Sept 6 Pretty fair but the wind blew quite a bit a couple of times and rained a little too but not enough to stop work. Johny picked plums this forenoon and raked oats this afternoon. I finished cutting the oats at the windy hill place this forenoon and this afternoon I cut over a part of the wheat ground. Mrs Randell took over a little over a hundred lbs of wild plums to Mr Evans's grocery.

Fri Sept 7 It acted like rain a good deal and about 3 O clock it began to rain and kept it up until nearly night and most of the time it rained very hard. I think that as much as 2 inches of water fell if not more. When we went up to the windy hill place to shock oats the ditch up above the house had about 20 inches of water running in it and when we came down the ditch was running over just above the bridge and in lots of places it was an awful big rain. Johny finished raking and bunching the oats in the forenoon and in the afternoon he shocked until stopped by the rain. I finished cutting the wheat piece this forenoon and this afternoon I shocked oats till got drove off by the rain. Ett and Mrs Evans came here to day [today] and are going to stay all night on account of the rain.

Sat Sept 8 Cloudy and awful muddy all day and will be muddy for several days. Johny went to town and got some wire and staples and done sundry othe chores. Mrs Harris was here to day [today] and got 2 dollars worth of Crabapples and plums. I fixed a pitchfork and made a coupling pole for the old wagon and sowed up the long tear in the big sheet.

Mon Sept 10 Clear and pretty and no frost this morning. We fixed the fence that runs down to the lake from the corner of the wheat field to keep the cattle from going around. John went to town this afternoon and took over some fruit and I spread out oats upon the windy hill place.

Tues Sept 11 A fine day. Johny gathered some fruit and went to town with it. I worked at the oats up at windy hill.

Wed Sept 12 Very nice day. Mr Marsh helped us to day [today] and we mowed in the orchard this forenoon and worked at the oats this afternoon. The boys hauled and stacked thre [three] loads and I finished shocking it. Mr John Armstrong and wife were here to day [today]. They seem to think well of our place.

Thurs Sept 13 A little too windy this afternoon in fact it was all day. Marsh and John finished stacking the oats in the forenoon and picked fruit this afternoon for Mr Blackmer and Johny has gone to town with 300 lbs of crabs [crabapples] and plums for him. I chored this forenoon and mowed on the 10 acre piece this afternoon.
