The Army of Tennessee (Confederate) was organized in spring 1861 as the Provisional Army of Tennessee under the command of Gen. Albert Sidney Johnston and served in the Western Theater. It was renamed the Army of Tennessee in November 1862 and was later commanded by Gen. P. G. T. Beauregard, Maj. Gen. Braxton Bragg, Gen. Joseph E. Johnston, and Gen. John Bell Hood.
