Description

The Provisional Confederate Congress established the Army Corps of Engineers (Confederate) on March 6, 1861 in Montgomery, Alabama under the War Department. Operating at the national level of the Confederacy, the Corps of Engineers was responsible for the construction of military fortifications and buildings, bridges, and demolitions in the Confederate Army.
