Company A of the 40th Regiment, Missouri Infantry (Union) was organized on August 15, 1864 in St. Louis, Missouri under the command of Capt. Adam Bax and served in the Western Theater in the Department of the Cumberland. It was mustered out of service on August 8, 1865.
