The 20th Regiment, Confederate Cavalry (also known as Lay’s Regiment, Mississippi Cavalry) was authorized by order of the War Department in January 1864 and organized in April 1864 under the command of Col. Benjamin D. Lay and served in the Western Theater. It was disbanded in February 1865 and the remaining personnel were assigned to other units within Gen. Wirt Adams’ Brigade.
