The Smith's-Turner's Battery (Confederate), also known as the Chickasaw Desperadoes, was organized as an independent battery on July 1, 1861 in Clarke County, Mississippi under the command of Capt. Melanethon Smith and served in the Western Theater under Stephen's, Maney's, Jackson's, and Smith's Brigades. It was later commanded by Capt. William B. Turner.
