The 6th Regiment, Mississippi Infantry (Confederate) was organized on August 24, 1861 in Yalobusha County, Mississippi under the command of Col. John J. Thorton and served in the Western Theater under Cleburn's, Marmaduke's, and Bowen's Brigades. It was later commanded by Col. Robert Lowry and served under Rust's, Baldwin's, Adams', Reynold's brigades.
