Description: From the Mississippi Department of Archives and History Governor Clark Collection. Copy of a letter from Brigadier General Stephen Dill Lee to Robert Kells, superintendent of the Mississippi State Lunatic Asylum at Jackson, Mississippi, concerning a plan to purchase cotton for the use of the institution. Lee's letter includes a telegraphed message from Confederate General Leonidas Polk at Meridian, Mississippi, to Robert Kells, guaranteeing protection for the cotton.
